Why Have We Fasted

What the Categories Mean

Echoes of the Gospel

In spite of our claims of God’s omnipotence, in our quest to not be “of the World,” sometimes we evangelicals act as though God is absent from certain domains. “Echoes of the Gospel” posts explore various aspects of the World where echoes of Gospel messages can be found, almost as though the very rocks are crying out (Luke 19:40).

To be clear, we don’t think the various sources explored here are “preaching the Gospel,” per se. Instead, we observe similarities between what a particular “Wordly” source may say and what Christian teachings may say.

For the Love of Books

Book reviews on a variety of topics from autism to zealotry.

Precision of Language

Definitions matter. Those of us whose ministry involves effective communication have to be aware of what the words we are using actually mean. Otherwise, we are going to sow confusion, ignorance, or misinformation.

On the flip side, if we as congregation members are going to be effective at screening out false teachings, we also need to be aware of what words actually mean, so that we can be better aware of when they are being misused.

These posts look at buzzwords in the evangelical church and get back to the basics of both what they mean (or don’t mean) in English and the context in which they are used (or not used) in Scripture.

Raising Image Bearers

Having to do with parenting and children in general.

View from the Pews

Attempts to pierce the echo chamber of church leadership and/or the ivory towers of theologians who have no idea what their words sound like to ordinary church goers.

Why Have We Fasted

A catchall category at the moment, including church leadership, how our theology ought to inform our daily living, and spiritual abuse.
